For the nearly three-quarters of the almost 160 million that live in rural areas in Bangladesh, answers and solutions to life’s common problems have now come in the form of ladies on bicycles toting notebooks and mobile phones. These Infoladies, as they are called, ride from village to village to set up infobooths where they use net-gathered information to teach about hygiene, childbirth, skin diseases, crop problems and the like.
The informative content follows simple text, pictures and engaging multimedia animations to educate all users, many of whom are illiterate. And the Infoladies are seeing results from their efforts. From agriculture to health to sanitation and disaster management, they are using the power of information to make a lasting impact.
