Sunday, May 30th marked the day that Don Lennox of Scotland departed from New York City for a memorable transatlantic challenge. He will row 3,500 miles across the Atlantic Ocean before immediately running across the United States to complete one of the most grueling multi-sport endurance events in recent memory. His goal is to complete the row and run in just 100 days.
Lennox and his team departed from New York by boat at 9 a.m. on Sunday and will row 24 hours a day in two-man shifts. The team’s goal is to smash the current record by reaching England in less than 45 days–a reachable goal for a team that already has one transatlantic rowing world record.
Once he reaches England, Lennox will immediately board a plane for California where he will begin his run in the Bay Area in July–and where he will begin his attempt to run the length of the U.S. in a mere 50 days.
The feat will be attempted to raise money for Wounded Warrier, a nonprofit that helps veterans who lose limbs in combat.
“Starting the run after spending 45 days in a boat will be the toughest part,” says Lennox. “But my pain will be nothing compared to that suffered by wounded combat veterans.”
