Even (most of) the most avid climbers in the world can’t claim to have scaled the side of a building–let alone a skyscraper with 200 meter high facades. But tomorrow, June 23rd, 21 climbers from all over the globe will come together on the side of the Marina Bay Sands (MBS), a brand new resort and casino in Singapore, to do just that–scale its 90 degree glass facades.
Seven teams of three–comprised of two men and one woman each–will take on MBS’s three glass towers in a relay-style race to the top–the first-ever climbing championship to be held on a skyscraper. The event is just part of the festivities celebrating the grand opening of the resort itself but it’s drawing some of the world’s top climbing champions, including six-time British junior rock-climbing champion Hazel Findlay and Poland’s former speed- climbing junior champion Eliza Kubarska.
