Surf, Music are Up at Switchfoot Bro-Am

The sixth annual Switchfoot Bro-Am surf contest and concert returned to Moonlight Beach in Encinitas yesterday, Saturday June 26. The Encinitas-bred rock band created Bro-Am to give back to the San Diego community while raising money for a local children’s charity, StandUp For Kids. Funds were raised Friday night at an auction, and were raised throughout the event through beach vendors, sponsorships and an after-party at the Belly Up Tavern in Solana Beach.

Last year’s event attracted nearly 7,000 people.

This year’s surf contest participants included riders representing Hurley and other surf brands, as well as professional surfers Rob Machado, Tom Curren and Timmy Curran, and members of Switchfoot. Performers included Switchfoot, Foo Fighter Chris Shiflett and his Americana/Roots band, and songwriter Kate Voegele.
