A life-long photographer (and former Senior Photog for Snowboarder and Transworld magazines), Chris Brunkhart has combined a few of his passions–photography, snowboarding and travel–into one project: a book showcasing the beauty and culture of the six continents he visited on his travels. “How Many Dreams in the Dark” presents the visual documentation of places such as Alaska, Chile, Japan, and the Czech Republic, and was created in part, according to Brunkhart, to “expose the roots that spurred the astonishing growth of snowboarding.” But after having ventured around the world, Brunkhart admits that the book has developed into much more.
From Brunkhart’s website:
These pages are about days in the dark, waiting for the blue bird day, waiting to be discovered. These pages are about wondering what hides beyond the bend, what waits over the ridge. They speak of much more than just snowboarding as sport. This book is about journeys though Barcelona, Prague, London, NYC, Fiji, places and moments without boarding. The book exposes lives continued outside the sport, shining light upon the hidden personalities, passions, and dreams of pioneering heroes. Through these photographs, I hope you can find what I have found. I hope you find things in my photos that I have not found, and that all this finding compels you to go out and find even more. Just make sure that you don’t leave any dreams hiding the dark for too long.
