Though admittedly not as exciting a find as century-old butter, archaeologists on an Arctic expedition for Parks Canada discovered a sunken British vessel that disappeared in 1845. The ship—a navy vessel called “the Investigator”—had met its unfortunate demise during a rescue mission 155 years ago and was found in the Aulavik National Park.

Apparently, the Investigator found itself stuck in the ice while searching for the HMS Erebus and the HMS Terror, and crews stayed on the ship for two years before abandoning it.

Parks Canada began planning the search for the Investigator a year ago. On August 10, they plan to search for the still-missing HMS Erebus and HMS Terror.
