Old Media is Still Useful As Art

In the heyday of the cassette tape, there was no better way to say “I heart you” than to give your crush a mixed tape. Remember spending hours brooding over how you would communicate your emotions via an  assortment of pop music? Maybe you started your tape on a note of upbeat fun (with a Guns and Roses ballad, or some Right Said Fred perhaps) before transitioning to your emotional climax with a tear-wrenching Boys to Men love number. Or maybe you are the type of person who doesn’t mess around. Maybe your mixed tapes cut right to the chase with a repeat of “I Wanna Sex You Up” by Color Me Badd for all sixty glorious minutes.

If you were alive to experience the cassette tape then you’ve made a mix for someone you care about. But did you give it to them? Or do you have a shoebox of cobweb-covered cassettes sitting in a keep box next to your prom pictures in the attic? If so then why not go the route of artist Iri5 and say goodbye to the past forever by turning those emotion-filled cassettes into pieces of art?

Iri5 is an artist who specializes in using non-traditional media such as old books, audio cassettes, playing cards, magazines, credit cards to make cool stuff for people like you and I to enjoy.

Nice work!
