Markus Haering, designer of the geothermal project in Switzerland, has denied allegations that he deliberately damaged properties in Switzerland. The project leader, Geopower Basel, has already paid 9 million Swiss francs to compensate for damage caused by drilling-related earthquakes in 2006. A recent risk analysis report concluded that more earthquakes would follow if the drilling continued. While the project has been shut down, Haering could face up to five years in prison if he is found guilty.
