Jon Bowermaster, an expedition sea kayaker and Wend contributor (vol. 4, #1) who’s paddled about the globe as part of his OCEANS 8 project, is not stoked on the outcome of the climate talks in Copenhagen.
Blogging in the wake of calving glaciers in the Antarctic Sea, Bowermaster has this to say about the conference:
“Rather than being filled with optimism after this long-trumpeted confab, without much reading between the lines it’s clear that not a lot was accomplished in Copenhagen other than the expulsion of a lot more hot air.”
Disparaging the ethics of the climate talks, particularly the use of transportation (i.e. 1,200 limousines and 140 private jets), Bowermaster roughly calculated the carbon footprint of event at an astonishing total of 41,000 tons; comparable to that of a U.S city of 225,000 over the same 11-day time period.
