Caithness Energy, one of the leading development firms of Geothermal, Wind, and Solar energy has just awarded General Electric a 1.4 billion dollar contract to build the largest wind farm in the world. The location for the project is North central Oregon, just south of the Columbia river in an area known as Shepherd’s Flat. The contract will install GE’s most efficient wind generation towers, totaling 338 on a 30 square mile footprint. Once installed, by the scheduled completion date of 2012, the wind farm will generate 909 megawatts of power and provide enough power to fuel 230,000 homes. The construction will boost the Oregon economy by 15 million dollars, provide jobs in rural areas and will reduce carbon emissions by 1.5 million tons.
