Even though NASA scientists have confirmed that global warming exists, there are still plenty of people out there that aren’t so sure it’s man made. While some may find this viewpoint arrogant, the Vice-Chairman of National Development and Reforms Commission in China, Xie Zhenhua, is among them, the Telegraph reports.

Speaking at a recent summit between the world’s most powerful developing nations (India, South Africa, Brazil, and China), Zhenhua stated that China is not convinced emissions cause climate change. Considering that developing nations are now the highest emitter of carbon dioxide, the statement came as a shock.

Baffled, Jairam Ramesh of India thought that maybe Zhenhua misspoke, while South Africa’s delegate Buyelwa Sonjica said she would not “second guess” what the Chinese minister said.

Zhenhua’s comment seemed to contradict the group’s main argument: that developed nations ought to pay for poor countries to switch to low carbon models, believing that emissions cause global warming.
