Uh-oh. The social networking site Facebook isn’t as environmentally benign as one might assume. In fact, Facebook recently announced its plans to build a giant data center in Oregon, which will be powered by coal. According to Change.org, “Coal is the single biggest cause of global warming and by far the dirtiest and most polluting way to generate electricity.”
If you care about the environment, and don’t want your favorite social networking site to contribute hugely to global climate change and pollution, you may want to consider singing the petition that asks Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg and VP of Technical Operations Jonathan Heiliger to power the plant with renewable energy. To sign the petition, just click on the link above and enter your information, it takes about 15 seconds and could make a huge difference in the future of the environment.
