Eric Larsen To Reach North Pole on Earth Day

This Earth Day, April 22, 2010, marks the 40th Anniversary of the day of dedication to our planet, but it will also mark something that’s potentially even more significant. Tomorrow, on Earth Day, after 50 days on ice and open water, Polar Explorer Eric Larsen will officially complete the second grueling leg of his three-man, three-part “Save the Poles” journey by reaching the North Pole. Upon completing his second leg, Larsen will come closer to his goal of completing the first-ever expedition to the South Pole, North Pole and summit of Mt. Everest in the time span of just one year.

Through his “Save the Poles” journey, Larsen also hopes to collect relevant scientific data in order to raise awareness and create strategies for reducing the impact of global climate change. “This expedition will tell the story of these remote places so we can better understand how our actions affect the poles and ultimately the planet,” Larsen says. “We all need to be reminded that we must act now to stop global warming.”
