Water. An indispensable resource in every nation that happens to be undrinkable for millions. This is the foundation (and motivation) of the company Live Earth, founded by Al Gore and Emmy-winning producer Kevin Wall. Live Earth strives, through entertainment and events, to raise awareness about the global water crisis, and to help overcome it.
Live Earth’s upcoming event is the Dow Live Earth Run for Water, a world-wide 6 km run (the distance many people have to go to locate clean drinking water). The run will take place all over the world throughout the course of 24-hours on April 18, 2010, and will feature concerts and educational activities amid the running event. Go here to find out where the nearest Run for Water event is taking place in your state.

As a hardcore water conservation/pollution prevention fella I cringe seeing Dow’s name attached to anything good in this arena. Instead of going for the clean water-PR approach Dow could start by simply cleaning up all of their past water pollution messes and focus more seriously on preventing the same problems in the future. I know they are showing a more rigorous focus on clean water–but given their dirty past, I can’t help but think it’s all for show. The fact that the run is a 6 km run “the distance many people have to go to locate clean drinking water” is depressingly ironic considering Dow is one of the companies that has made finding clean water increasingly difficult.
