VW Fold-Up Bike Could Replace Spare Tire

Volkswagen is now on the brink of developing more than just cars–they recently unveiled a new design in the form of a mini electric bike (bik.e) at Auto China 2010. The device, which actually has no wheels at all, is battery-powered and can run at speeds up to 12.5 miles per hour. The bik.e also folds up into a small flat disc, which can be placed nicely into your trunk’s spare tire compartment.

The VW bik.e concept, which was promoted at the International Automotive Convention as a part of VW’s strides in sustainability, is actually just intended as a supplement to your car, as it’s not made for long distances and can’t really go that fast. Regardless, it’s a pretty unique idea, and transforms the traditional way of thinking about what a bike actually is.
