The Neverending Oil Spill Story

It’s hard to ignore the fact that crude oil is spilling into the ocean at a constant flowing rate. It’s also hard to ignore the fact that BP has been utterly unsuccessful in its attempts to stop the oil spill. The most recent effort, the “top kill” method of packing mud into a busted well was a failure… and now BP is going to try using robots to cut off the flow of oil from the damaged riser and cap it with a containment valve. However, this plan also isn’t fool-proof, and the “permanent” solution (a relief well currently being drilled) won’t be ready until August.

As disheartening as the oil spill itself is, it’s equally as upsetting, disappointing and frightening that BP is so seemingly incapable of handling the clean-up of a spill of this magnitude. If you’re of the opinion to “Drill, baby, drill,” you sure as hell should be capable of cleaning up the mess you might make in the case of a spill.

  1. BP, Hayward, and the MMS are crooks and liars. I don’t believe a single word that comes out of Haywards mouth. They better make this right.
