Commercials piss me off, fast food commercials especially.
Most notably those that prey on the dimwitted fatties who get chubby little erections when they learn (from a commercial) that Taco Bell is promoting $2 Meal Deals!!! (Insert excitement here—followed by heart attack.)

Charles Barkley (Referring to the $2 meal deal): That’ terrible! How’s Taco Bell gonna make money off that?
Answer: CORN!

Wired Science shares:

Corn is central to agriculture in the United States, where it is grown in greater volumes and receives more government subsidies than any other crop. Between 1995 and 2006 corn growers received $56 billion in federal subsidies, and the annual figure may soon hit $10 billion.

Not only do such subsidies keep many farmers from being able to grow other vegetables and crops, corn requires large amounts of fertilizer and pesticides. These chemicals are depleting our soil, poisoning our soil and groundwater, and they require large amounts of fossil fuel to manufacture.

Worse still, the overwhelming majority of the corn in the US is genetically modified. Sufficient tests HAVE NOT been done on the effects of genetically modified crops or RoundUp (an herbicide made by the big-hearted philanthropists at Monsanto). Many studies have been trickling in however, mostly from other countries (where companies like Monsanto have less of a bullying influence), and the results are as suspected—not good.

But, sir Charles, your bulbous melon has not yet likely made the connection of how corn subsidies have made fast food cheap. Read on.

Chemical analysis from restaurants across the United States shows that nearly every cow used in fast food is raised on corn. Cows are ruminant animals not meant to digest corn. Eating corn increases “gas” (emissions of methane—a potent greenhouse gas) and creates an intestinal environment rich in e. coli, a common cause of food poisoning. As a result, cow feed is mixed with antibiotics, which is producing antibiotic-resistant disease strains in cows and in the humans who eat them.

We’re seeing that corn is the number-one reason that fast food is so cheap and available,” said Meredith Niles, a food policy analyst at the Center for Food Safety who was not involved in the study. “U.S. programs are subsidizing obesity in this country.” …oh, and environmental degredation.

To recap (in case you still have a cheap food boner):
Corn=cheap
Corn=cheap food
Corn=toxic to cows and therefore those who eat cows (us)
Corn=genetically modified corn (again, toxic to us)
Corn=toxic soil and water (again, toxic to us)
Charles Barkley and Taco Bell=the rich man making money off the poor man by selling lies and harmful meat

KNOW YOUR FOOD!
