Just a little behind the scenes action in which one of these Seattle hooligans talks unending smack about the Washington vs. Oregon Grail de la Grunge battle. Brad Ross intervenes. There is hat of questionable taste involved.

By way of back-story, Slate Olson (Rapha) and crew retrieved the coveted grail from the clutches of the northerners on Saturday. At Sunday’s race at Rainier High School, despite being heavily guarded, it was re-captured by the rogue Seattlites.  There is some debate about who has truly earned the coveted symbol of superiority and no doubt the battle will rage on for the rest of the season.

I will admit to being slightly conflicted about this whole Grail de la Grunge business.

Having been born and raised in Seattle, I want to root for the Sasquatches. I really do.  And our very own Wend mascot, Sassie the Sasquatch, has expressed his concerns about my allegiances (and he does admit to enjoying the hat featured in this video).

But my Cyclocross heart is a Portland heart so, although I’m not even really sure how all this unicorn business started, I will have to officially side with the one-horns.

Like the great Care Bears that went before us, let us unite in the name of all things make believe and rainbow-striped!

The grail was stolen by those vanilla-latte slurping Starbuckians and it must be retrieved. Who will save us this time? Oregon crossers – mobilize!

[Mom, Dad - forgive me, I've defected!]
